Maker Faire Detroit

Monday, July 30, 2012

I was at the Maker Faire Detroit this weekend.
This was my 3rd year vending here & has been an amazing event every year.

Here are some of the amazing vendors that were there!

She makes these cute robots with a TV vacuum tube.
Nice way to Upcycle!

She makes all kinds of goods that are quilted and super duper cute!!!

OMG is all I can say about her stuff!
This is the mug that I had to buy.

Marcy is now know to me as pumpernickel queen!
She gave me the most delicious Pumpernickel pretzels and saved me from total hunger!!
She make all these wonderful prints!!

OMG she is so funny! I couldn't get enough of her table!!
I got this for my hubby I'm going to hang it on his rear view mirror.
Doesn't your man need a lady Wrangler?
he may have already wrangled his lady but sometimes is nice to just let me know!

My set up!

Since we were at the Henry Ford Museum I thought I would give you some history!
This was president Kennedy's car~ Yep the one he died in!

I think I can officially say I am down with Weekly whip up's!
I'm not feeling it anymore so I will just post the stuff I make as I make it!

Have a Great Week!

Craft Show Grind

Thursday, May 31, 2012

So if you never done craft shows there is so much to learn!
I learn something new with every show.
When you do a show you have your seasoned crafters and your new crafters. I fall in between there.
The seasoned crafters sometimes are a bit gruff, older and have been on the
craft circuit for years I mean 20 years.
Most of the time I ask people questions especially the seasoned crafters because then I get a feel of what the show will be like. Next to me was a seasoned couple and they were helpful then the next day came and the gentleman said to me that the other vendors (seasoned ones) were asking about my plastic bottle lights and they were "neat" but compared to the rest of my stuff "well you know" ~
really what the hell does that Mean? that my stuff is Crap?
Well buddy your stuff is nothing to write home about! you have big glue glops that look like Crap!
Then to top it off they (the couple) kept going on how shows aren't what they use to be.
Which left me discourages as all get up!

On the other side of me was Phyllis.
Phyllis makes crocheted and some sewing items.
She is a more on my level not seasoned and not new.
I chatted with her sat evening and she went on how her friends are just raking it in at craft shows.
She was so encouraging it was getting me excited!
Sunday came and it was raining and windy. Phyllis came into my tent to give me a crochet headband to keep my ears warm.  It wasn't really my style but bless her heart to think of me so I wore it with Pride!

My favorite thing to do at shows it to help other vendors!

I meet some ladies that are going to be hitting the craft circuit making Upcycled Wreaths!

I can't wait to see them! I enjoy telling people the in's and out's. Learn from my mistakes.

Here are a few things I've learned about craft shows:

1) There are 2 kinds of Craft shows - Country crafts & indie crafts.

2) Not all products will cross with the 2 types of shows. Know your product.

3) Don't always listen to the Seasoned Crafters they tend to be bitter about newbies!

4) You can sell crap if your display is the BOMB!

(it's all about presentation!)

5) If your at a tent show put something on the outside to draw folks in.

Show Season

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

It's finally Craft Show season!
It feels like it's kicked in later this year but maybe because that is my biggest source of income this year.

It was a beautiful weekend & our booth space was in a shady place.
We got lucky with that since it was 88 degrees out with the sun a blazing.

Here's our set up.
I do shows with my Good Friend Wendy Roberts of Recycled Lps.

Now sadly I never do an inventory count.

I have good intentions & even count my goods sometimes but never go any further.

This weekend however I knew on Sat that I didn't sell any BFF necklaces or Keychains & when I was fixing my stuff up on Sunday I found the Head to the Pig BFF Keychains but NO BUTT!

Really someone stole the Butt?

I guess I would rather not know if someone stole something so that I don't get mad.

I also kept counting my Classy/Trashy Rings thinking I had 11 but there was only 10 there~

When I checked my Etsy shop sure enough one was missing.

The Bud Light Ring.

It's just harder to swallow because you work so hard to make these items &

I don't charge a lot that I fell like everyone can afford them. :(

Hello Pig Head sorry someone stole your Butt!

Bye Bye BL Ring I hope whoEver stole you Drinks to much & Pukes.
